Are you a Salesforce Admin or Platform App Builder? As of May 1st, the new Spring ’18 Release Exams are out with new features you need to know. Are you already aware of them? If not, keep reading this blog in order to prepare yourself to pass your maintenance exams and get ready for your next Salesforce challenge!

For Salesforce Administrators:

  • Salesforce Files: Salesforce now allows you to provide your team the possibility to preview files on the go, upload them from a flow as well as skip triggers and Validation rules on Asset Files. The most important features are the possibility to access all your asset files with the View List of Asset Files feature, allow users to create Assets, and even create Asset Files for Unauthenticated users with the help of a dedicated servlet. What more is there? You can now integrate QUIP to chat and collaborate on Salesforce documents. Quip is a collaborative productivity software that allows multiple users to edit files as a team and collaborate on any device. You can set it up in your Salesforce org and it helps you combine your team’s effort in a central hub.
  • New Dashboard options for Lightning Experience: Apart from the fact that you can now display up to 1000 Groups in Line and Bar charts in the Salesforce Dashboards, you now have some other really cool features. You can set the Cart Legend Position wherever you want (on the right, left or the bottom). You can also download chart images from Dashboard components, and group small segments with less than 3% of total data into “Others” category, to make it easier for the grouping. What I find the most impressive is that there is no more the limitation of only showing either totals OR percentages in the donut charts and that you can show totals in the center of them!
  • Case Management: The new feature for Case Management allows you to Reply and Forward and email directly form the Case Feed. The only thing you have to do is to enable this from the Page Layout as shown in the picture below:

  • New UI Features with Themes and Colors: Believe it or not, you can finally create your own themes and colors in your organization simply from Setup -> Themes and Branding -> New Theme. You can choose whether you prefer the app’s image and color or the org’s custom theme by clinking on the checkbox in the picture below. Please note: Only one theme can be active at a time in the whole organization!

  • Opportunity Splits: This new feature in Lightning allows sales reps to collaborate on opportunities and share opportunity with team members. Initially, the Opportunity Owner has 100% of the Opportunity share, until other splits are added. He or users above him in the role hierarchy, can edit Opportunity Splits from the Opportunity Splits related list as shown in the pictures below:

  • Campaign management: You can now use a path to help your team manage the stages of your campaigns. Since campaigns can vary depending on the business processes of each organization, there is no default path provided. Instead, you can create your own path based on any available picklist values. Just go to Setup -> Path -> Path Settings and use the Lightning App Builder to create your own path.

For App Builders:

  • Survey Lightning Component: One of the most exciting new features for Salesforce App Builders are the Salesforce Surveys! You can create beautiful forms to gather feedback from your customers very easily and store your data in your org. You can even add those surveys into Lightning pages and communities using the Lightning App Builder and the Community Builder.
  • Data Privacy: With the recent GDPR Compliance requirements, Salesforce introduced the Individual object in order to help companies store their customers preferences regarding their personal data in Leads, Contacts or Person Accounts. This object comes with some standard checkboxes that store customer data preferences and you can use it by enabling Data protection and Privacy in your org.

  • Flows on the Action Menu: You no longer have to type in the flow URL manually every time you want to add a flow to the action menu. The only thing you need to do is to pick from a list of existing flows existing flows, as long as they are active and have screens. You can add a flow to the Action menu on a Lightning Record Page by using an Object-Specific Action! In addition, Flow Actions are fully supported in change sets and other deployment tools.
  • Topics in Process Builder and Workflow Rules: In the new release, you can trigger Process Builder and Workflow Rules using Topics. Can you even imagine that you can make a process that informs you, for example, every time your topic is assigned to a post?

  • Reports and Dashboards: The new feature that is added to the Lightning Experience in the new Spring ‘18 Release is the matrix reports. Still there might be some features that are still missing, like joined reports, row limit filters and Dashboard Settings menu, but we are getting there!
